This movie was a brilliantly formed martial arts movie utilizing two of the best talents of our day. Additionally, it also integrates discussion of philosophy that is worked seamlessly into the story and stated simply enough for even the most uneducated viewer. From beginning to end this was a roller coaster ride of fun and kung fu.

Iron Man: 1 view
Robert Downey jr.
Terrence Howard
Jeff Bridges
Gwyneth Paltrow

*shrugs* From my brief experience with Iron Man and *exasperated sigh* everything I was forced to hear about it, this was a great and accurate adaptation of the original comic. Personally, I almost didn't see it due to the rampant fanboy-ism and I still find myself upset that any chance I had of truly enjoying it was ruined by the people who just wouldn't shut up about it.

That being said. Yes, it was a good movie, not the movie event of the century many of my local and not-so-local comic book obsessed friends claim, but it was a good movie. It has several good scenes and, from what I could tell, a well crafted soundtrack. It was fun and enjoyable to watch. Yes, there is a revelation after the credits. If you are a Marvel fanatic stick around. I don't think it's the geek-out revelation of the year, either, but hey... maybe it's just proof that I have more of a life than far too many of the people I hang out with out here, one of which saw the movie 5 times opening weekend and still hasn't shut up about it.

I do recommend this movie, especially to the comic-book inclined. Hope those of you who haven't seen it yet haven't had it ruined for you, either.

Speed Racer: 3 views
Emile Hirsch
Susan Sarandon
John Goodman
Christina Ricci

I can some up my opinions on this movie very simply. It is incredibly campy, horribly predictable, true to form, and a must see.

The Wachowski brothers managed to bring together a top-notch cast for this long-time children's classic and create a movie that was both a brilliantly constructed movie and a perfect homage to its namesake. Even knowing what was coming, I was on the edge of my seat throughout my entire first viewing of this movie. It is paced perfectly to tell you the whole story without giving you a chance to get bored. Additionally, many long or short time animé viewers will notice many classic animé visual styles cropping up again and again through out the film. As I said, a must see for all ages.

AUGH

snow... 6 inches so far and it's still coming...

3rd tenday/gencon/other news

Hey, all, yeah, I got behind again. The third tenday was fairly eventful, we cleared a bit out of the Vore site, but we actually spent most of our man-hours at a cave site near Mount Rushmore. I can't say much about it except that we found a lot of kewl stuff because a few people from the group are submitting a group paper to a conference and I don't want to spill the beans quite the publically.

GenCon was a blast, though I'll admit that Tony's presance at the Live Reading caught me off-guard, not that I'm complaining. Played all 3 Kalamar events and Darkstep still isn't 8th level *sighs* oh well. The Auction went really well this year, though I'm still a little leary of the new management. They almost managed to chase away the one person who takes care of the volunteers instead of schedules and numbers... I'm hoping next year will go better on that count.

I suppose the biggest news bulliten from GenCon, though, happened on Wednesday night: I'm engaged.

I'm sure I'll think of more stuff to say later, though I'd like to remind all the LK players who read my blog to go to the Yahoo group and vote in the polls, they can and will affect our futures.

#2

The Second Tenday

Pain and more pain, but it's good for me, right?

We spent the predicted 2-3 days finishing mapping at the High Plains Stone Circle Site, then started opening the Old Stone Barn Site. This site is thusly named because it is the site of the oldest ranch in Pine Bluffs and the lower half-ish of the old stone barn still stands. It has to be the most annoying site I've been at so far because we had to break every couple of hours to clean the 3-5 different species of stickers out of our pants, shoes, and socks. There were even small patches of jumping cactus in addition to the usual prickly pear populations.

We had to map in the barn, the house foundation, the still-unidentified depression next to the house, and the 'trash midden.' But it can't be too bad since that's where we finally got to do some digging. We dug several shovel tests and three test-pits and didn't find much, though in Test Unit B we did find part of a late-1800's-early-1900's pocket watch. We also surveyed the square-mile-ish of land around the the primary site. That was a long, hot day and we were rewarded with a couple of mason jars and a complete Heinz bottle... just... not rewarding at all.

Also, I got the wonderful opportunity to participate in the so-called death-march to Petch Springs. It begins with climbing Gurney Peak Fortress (a big ol' butte) and then continues as a mile-and-a-half walk to Petch Springs. I didn't make it to Petch Springs, but I did make it up Gurney Peak Fortress, which means a lot more to me, really, since it includes inching along ledges and climbing nearly shear rock faces.

We had another rash of cow attacks this tenday. They tried to stampede through camp and Houston chased them off and then returned triumphantly carrying a tipi pole discarded by a previous field-schooler.

Other than that, this tenday was fairly uneventful, just slogging out the work. I look forward to doing honest-to-God excavation in the last tenday up at the buffallo jump.

#2

EDIT: http://www.uwyo.edu/news/showrelease.asp?id=15800 check out this link, it's the Mythbusters working with our anthro department.

The first ten-day

Well, as a few of you know and many don't, I elected (and my 'rents paid good money) for me to do an archaeology field school this summer so I thought I'd share the results of the first of three tendays with y'all.

I now know more about plains projectile points than I ever cared to, but it's interesting. I've come to the conclusion that no matter how hard I try I'm never going to be able to pick out pot sherds from fire cracked rock on survey. And Seven Mile Point is my personal hell-on-earth, luckily I should never have to go there again.

Thursday, around 7 pm (should have been earlier, but I'll get to that), I got back from Pine Bluffs and my first stint doing honest-to-God archaeology work. Overall, it was fun, though it definitely had it's ups and downs (topographically speaking). We spent a lot of time in the first half of the tenday in the 'classroom,' but moved out to more field trips and practical work later on. I have learned how to classify points and other lithics (but mostly points) as well as the knapped material (if I never hear about the Heartville Uplift again I'll be plenty happy) and we spent the last three days maping and plotting tipi rings, which should also extend 3-ish days into the next tenday before we start testing (hopefully).

It can be really frustrating at times because Chuck (Dr. Reher-the listed prof for the course) often doesn't know what he wants done/to do until about 5 minutes before he gives Rick (Prof. Weathermon-his assistant, who didn't get into town untin Monday...), and then usually spends most of his time politicing with the local land-owners and sends Rick to take us out into the field.

While there, I sleep in a tent designed for two children (I can just barely stretch all the way out along the long axis) in a cow pasture. Yes, cows. In fact, it took the cows a few days to adjust to our presence... during which they trampled and chewed on David's tent and uprooted Rachel's.

There were 7 of us students this past tenday, but one, Michael, was only able to come for the one and his government-issue forest service vehicle will be missed as a means to transport the crap we need that should go in Chuck's vehicle.

We eat on the main floor of the town's Mason's Hall and have access to real showers in the city's community center. This luxury will continue for the next tenday (which I leave for on Tuesday) as well, but the third tenday we'll be living off a cook tent and solar showers *shudders*, but that's a few weeks off yet.

Pine Bluffs is a nice little town. It's about 6 blocks by 7 blocks and has no stop lights. There's only one grocery store and it's closed on Sundays. Pine Bluffs is the second largest town in Laramie County.

I would recommend that anyone passing through Pine Bluffs (it's on I80 just inside the Wyoming border... heck, it is the Wyoming-Nebraska border) in the Summer months stop by the two museums in town. There's the HPA (High Plains Archaeology Project) Museum, which is where we work out of, and the Texas Trail Museum, which is a more general history of the area. We set a tipi up for them just before we left at the end of the tenday... I wonder if the mold has travelled throughout the building yet.... So if you stop by the TTM (which is open year-round) and get the full tour, I helped put up the full-sized tipi, go us.

We've already had one injury, and it wasn't even in the field. Michael got up early-ish one day to go running, stepped on a rock and tore a ligament in his knee. Needless to say, he spent the rest of the tenday doing the jobs that required the least walking about.

I've also started doing some flint-knapping. It's actually a lot of fun, though also a bit dangerous considering the zeal of some of my classmates. I'm not really past being able to make decent-sized flakes yet, but I'm having fun.

I'm also learning a lot about what goes in to keeping a field lab/museum running. We were given fairly free reign to set up the new displays and re-arrange the old ones when we got there this tenday, which did include some instances of me on a ladder, which at least a few of you know is a rare occurrence. Not only was I on a ladder, but I was on a ladder hammering brass tacks into wood facing... that was an interesting project, let me tell ya.

In the next tenday I can look forward to more mapping (if I'm lucky a lot more mapping, mapping I like) lessons on some basic zooarchaeology to prepare for going to Vore Buffallo Jump for the last tenday, and digging test units and the like. The poor bastards have to eat my cooking every three days (we rotate through KP in teams of two), but I haven't killed anyone yet, so that must be a good sign, right?

Feel free to throw questions at me, though answers will be a few weeks in coming, since I leave again in a couple of days.

#2

Looking for some advice...

Hey, all, this is honestly something I never thought I'd have to ask anyone advice on, so if it sounds über-choppy, that's why. To protect the innocent, I'll use letters for people's names.

As most of you know, I'm in two long-standing gaming groups out here; one Friday night and one Saturday night. The Saturday night group has been subtely changing since the beginning of this school year. When I first joined it last fall, it was running on Sunday nights under I's purview and was a blast. Sure, there were a few rules changes that I had to work to adjust to, but I had fun, it was an interesting group. After that semester, though, I got into some trouble academically and hasn't been back to the University since (hopefully next semester), so D took the opportunity to pretty-much soak up the whole group of us. He'd been running before, but only a few people were in both groups. I wasn't in his first game after I left, a Hunter chronicle, but I did get in on his second: a fun D&D campaign based in his own world. The group was about half people I knew and about half people I didn't, but it was a lot of fun and we managed to get through a lot most sessions, though not every time because we only had a couple of hours Tuesday nights. This game took a break over the Summer and got moved to Saturday nights where we finished it up in the Fall, short 3 or 4 of the people from the original group, but we still managed to have fun.

After that we switched to a Star Wars d20 game which has overall been fun, with a few exceptions hinging on certain characters. This switch of game, though, was accompanied by a major change in the group. We added three new people, one of which I knew from my German classes, the other two were friends of D's from Startek. Now we're nearing the end of that campaign and I find myself facing a hard dicision. One of my good friends in this group (also from karate) is graduating at the end of this semester and D's planning on adding 3 new people for the next campaign, two of whom work at Startek, one of whom is from the older group and hasn't been around for a while and is, quite frankly, a meta-gamer and a cheater at times, though supposedly he's made a life change... I guess we'll see when it comes to him.

This past Saturday (the one before Easter for those of you who may not see this for a while) several people were going to be out of town so D decided to have a game-evening instead. Those of you who have haver played non-rpgs with me can probably judge that I was excited about the prospect of actually being able to play games. I guess I really shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. We ended up playing a 2.5 hour-long game of Munchkin (after which I left) with 9 players, combining the Munchkin core and supplements, Starmunchkin, and Munchkin Blender. I spent this 2.5 hours absolutely miserable. Only a few of us were actually playing the game. Especially around the one end of the table it seemed like we would sit for 5 or 6 min. before one of us would suddenly go "hey, who's turn is it" because no one had been playing anything. In addition to the game there were no less than 2.5 conversations going on at anyone time, not counting the possibility of multiple conversations between the same people as well as at least one other source of outside distraction. Initially they put on the DVD of Robin Williams Live, which, though funny, I have never even contemplated before as background noise to a game. Once that was over one of the members was encouraged to put on a CD he'd brought with... of dragcapella Christmas carols. I'll be honest, I think throwing on some music while playing games can be very good, but not music with lyrics... and especially not music with lyrics for a completely past and over holiday. In any other situation (and especially around Christmas time) I might have enjoyed them, but all they were to me at that moment was yet another thing that was keeping 90% of the group from playing Munchkin so that we could finish up and move on to another game.

The already explained irritation was only compounded by the topics that kept being returned to in the conversations I couldn't screen out: politics, sex/sexuality/attractiveness, and who they did/did not like at Startek. This last one is also a standard topic of discourse at our role playing sessions and I fear will only get worse the longer I attend. After the current game is over the new one will have a minimum of 11 people involved, including GM, possibly more, and only 3 of us don't work at Startek (possibly 2, but I don't think R works at all). Technically, there's a 4th person who doesn't work there, but he used to, so whenever the topic comes up he's a constant stream of 'do I know that person?'s as well as agreement.

The fact that I find myself sitting in a room with 8 people who all work together and all but one of whom seem to love and hate all the same people at work makes me seriously question whether this is a goup I want to continue to associate with. I'm beginning to feel like I fell in with a crowd just like every one I avoided in Middle School and High School. I'd feel better if it were a constant stream of 'he said's and 'she said's, but it's not it's 'so-and-so's a brown noser' or 'he's a jerk.' I've never once heard them give any concrete reason for thier dislike, I'm forced to assume because they all already know it, but it still annoys me. I managed throughout High School to associate primarily with people for whom that kind of gossip was a huge no-no. It wasn't that it never came up, but that it was limited and there was always a definite concrete reason for the dislike. The fact that I know that most of them dislike my boyfriend only complicates the matter. One of the people joining in on the next game is fond of Rich and vice versa, but other than that it's a pretty general agreement that they don't like Rich, though to varying levels. No, they've never discussed it in front of me, but Rich is very aware of it from they way they treat him at work (including complaining about him to try to get him fired) and my roommate has mentioned it to me as well because she attends another game with this group on Sunday nights. There are a few people in this group who's opinion, prior to recent months, I might have placed stock in, but seeing the juvenile interactions they maintain with eachother I can't help thinking that their dislike of him stems from two primary sources: 1) that he is several years older than me, so they have decided he's some sort of creepy pedophile, and 2) that he doesn't stoop to participating the kind of juvenile conversations that they're beginning to partake of quite regularly.

In the end, I find myself wondering if this is really a group that I want to continue to associate with, but I also know that I enjoy gaming with D and that he is a very good story-teller, if not the greatest of GMs. As I said before, he has a few habits that bother me, but they're worth putting up with for the story and I enjoy having the opportunity to rp with my roommate, who I really brought into the community... And it's not like anyof them alone strike me as being bad people, it's just that I'm starting to feel completely incapable of associating with half the non-game discussion that occurs. Also, since most of the players now are 'friends from work,' it's starting to feel like a social club that has a game going on instead of like a game. I'd really like some advice on how to deal with this. We've got a couple of sessions left in the Star Wars game and I've been looking forward to the D&D game concept that's coming up for a while, but I just don't know if I can do it with this group.

#2

been a while

Criminies it's been a while since I posted, just thought I'd catch everyone up. Karen and I are on the wait list for a University Apartment starting this Summer (don't worry, I'll still be at GenCon come Hell or high water) and I've got a boyfriend. Lordy am I in pain. But I did have fun and I learned a lot... We both made a few mistakes, but passed anyway (yay!)... so now I need to fork over the dough for a green belt ($5, no biggie)...

I learned Kuwa(garden hoe)-kata and bunkai as well as applications with kioga (expandable baton) on Saturday. On Suday Karen and I watched the dan-test, which was absolutely amazing. There were several kata that all 8 of the testers did together that looked almost rehearsed. They were in perfect time with eachother and their uniforms were snapping. It was absolutely amazing. After the Dan-test we learned a nunchakku kata that Soke hasn't decided whether or not to integrate into our style yet, but it was fun. After that we went over Nijushiho (24 steps) kata, which most of us learned at the end of last Spring and I think he changed the counts on us... bu the does that... after that we did rock breaking. I broke two, aren't you proud of me?

Overall I had a fun weekend, but it also feels like I didn't really have one... I'm safely back at school and workin' my ass off for IT for not enough money... oh, well, better than not working at all, right?

The really depressing thing is that I've only got one class in my major this semester because I'm stuck in Freshie composition (ENGL 1010). I'm also taking POLS 1000, which fills my AM & Wyo Gov requirement... yes, I have to pass another bloody constitution exam; BIOL 1010, which is boring as heck, but I have to have it to take the upper-level ZOOL course I need to take my paleo courses; GERM 2040 at 8 in the fecking morning... but I'm surviving so far; and, my only Anth class, ANTH 2000 (Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology)... which fills my oral requirement, so guess what I get to do :D (not).

Somehow I got myself signed up to work 7am on Saturdays, hence why I'm posting right now (god I'm tired @.@)

It looks like my Fridaynight game this semester's going to be running the old d6 StarWars instead of V:tM so that Devin can play instead of GM and hopefully Dylan's game will start tonight, though I'll find out for sure from Kassidy at dojo this morning.

On the 23rd and 24th the karate group is having an international clinic hosted in the prep gym, which is gonna be awesome... and thankfully other Lab Assistants are picking up my shifts... just got to get rid of the one I'm doing now... I've already signed up to test and I'm going to work my arse off to get ready in time. This test I need 8 basic kata, 2 bo-kata, and 1 other weapons kata. I'll be doing Taikioku Shodan-Yondan (though I don't technically need yondan because it was created after I started, but I know it so I'll assume I need it) and Pinan Shodan-Yondan (I need to work the bunkai from Pinan Yondan and Taikioku Yondon still), then I'll be doing bo-kata (easy) and Shujino-Kun (needs some work), and for my other weapons kata I'm doing Sai Nidan (needs bunkai too). I've got a couple weeks and I prepped for my last test in less, so here's wishin' me luck. GenCon was a blast, as always. The auction made booku bucks, not that I'll see much of it... well, actually I don't know how much of a share I got of last year's earnings, but Jane handed me $50 on Sunday and I was all 'woo!'... anyway...

Let's see, where do I begin, oh, yes, Thursday. Thursday I went to a Euchre tournament and almost won, oh well. I lost to two worthy adversaries, one of which is now really interested in me. Some of you would've met him at the live-reading on Friday, but we'll get there.

Other than that on Thursday I worked the auction... running, store nazi-ing... data entry... had a blast...

Didn't do much work at the auction on Friday... played the new Kalamar adaptable in the morning and saw the Video Games Live concert that night. For all you Kalamar players who read this and haven't played The Unguarded Horde yet, play it. It's really good and has some great perks. Video Games Live was awesome! They started with a whole medly of classic game music.. you know, Pong and Frogger... stuff like that. They did a whole medly of Mario music, no, no Luigi's Mansion, sorry Tony... There was a 'live' version of Space Invaders... they put this guy from the audience in a shirt with the ship-thingy on it and had him play on the big screen... he didn't do very well... They did something similar with Frogger, but it was a competition between two audience members... I swear to God I never thought I'd see an 18-year-old non-gamer female beat a 30-year-old gamer in a kilt at Frogger, but I did. VGL kicked all kinds of ass.

I spent most of Saturday at the Auction, only taking a break for the live reading, which I enjoyed. Gamer Volleyball forever! the reading was awesome, if for nothing else than getting to here Ryan say "I wanna play pretty pretty princess!"

Sunday we worked... and worked... and mom nearly killed Bruce... *shrugs* no huge loss...

and then on Monday I got re-employed... I got a campus job! *happy dance* It's one hell of a pay cut, but better'n nothing... and I can do homework while I'm 'working', which is good...

I think that's it, *waves* probably won't post again 'til I'm in Wyoming.

#2

Survey I stole from BJ, who stole it from Viv, who stole it from Lim3y...

LAYER ONE
-- Name: Amber
-- Birthdate: 21/9/87
-- Birthplace: IL
-- Eye Color: Hazel
-- Hair Color: Brown
-- Height: 5 ft 9 inches
-- Righty or Lefty: Right, but working on ambidexterity
-- Zodiac Sign: Virgo (Rabbit in Chinese)

LAYER TWO
-- Your heritage: German, mostly, with some Norwegian, English... basically everything western European
-- The shoes you wore today: sneakers
-- Your weakness(es): temper
-- Your fears: losing people
-- Your perfect pizza: pineapple, onions, and extra cheese
-- Goal you'd like to achieve: >.>... survive

LAYER THREE
-- Your most overused phrase on AIM: lol
-- Your thoughts first waking up: is it noon already?
-- Your best physical feature: dunno... certainly not my butt..
-- Your bedtime: 2 am
-- Your most missed memory: #1's parties

LAYER FOUR
-- Pepsi or Coke: Coke... but I prefer root beer
-- McDonald's or Burger King: Mc Donalds... but I prefer Wendys
-- Adidas or Nike: don't care
-- Lipton Ice Tea or Nestea: never, neither, yuck...
-- Chocolate or vanilla: chocolate
-- Cappuccino or coffee: neither

LAYER FIVE
-- Smoke: No
-- Cuss: Sometimes... less when I'm pissed, more when I'm complaining...
-- Take a shower everyday: yes
-- Have a crush(es): *shifty eyes* I admit nothing
-- Do you think you've been in love: I don't know, definite possibility
-- Want to go to college: already there
-- Want to get married: someday
-- Believe in yourself: for the most part
-- Get motion sickness: not often
-- Think you're attractive: I think attractiveness is a matter of opinion...
-- Think you're a health freak: I'll be a health freak when hell freezes over and Bill (from Microsoft) produces open-source software
-- Like thunderstorms: Love 'em
-- Play an instrument: ... cello, piano... She was the main person I worked with in the office and now we've thrown the guy who was originall supposed to replace me at the end of the summer into the deep end of trying to do her job right now.

What happened was that during our 'lunch' on Thursday Sam's boyfriend (who doesn't work for LTD) pulled up in his car, they had some sort of argument/disagreement/altercation and he took her with him. Not 'she left with him,' not 'she reluctantly chose him over her work', he took her with him. She wasn't given the time to clock out, explain any 'situation' to her Group Leader or Supervisor, she wasn't even able to return to Inbound and retrieve her sunglasses and waterbottle from her desk. I'll admit that I've only known her a few weeks, but we all agree that this is very unlike her. She always came to work to work and enjoyed doing so. She did arrive for work today, so at least we know she's alive, gave our Supervisor notes to give people who she'd lent things or who had lent her things to get everything back where it belongs and was separated from the company for work abandonment.

Many of us agree that even though we know she's ok, we don't think that she's OK and I'd appreciate it if those of you who do could keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

#2

Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. *turns page* Today we were kidnapped by hill-people never to be seen again, it was the best day ever

To explain, I'll start by saying that that's a quote from the TV show Firefly which led into the movie Serenity which came out recently. For those of you who have seen the movie (I'll assume that the people who've seen the TV show don't need explination) it's Jayne 'reading' Simon's journal after Simon and River are kidnapped by hill-people.

Now, to explain why I chose to title my entry this, I got promoted to-... well, technically yesterday... around 11:50 pm. I'm changing from inbound inspection to inbound clerk (working in the office) which adds up to about $1.10 more an hour and a little bit less physical labor.

I didn't request this promotion. It actually caught me a bit by surprise. It happened because the group leader for the inbound office saw me pulling up and printing out the information I needed to do an inspect. Normally I (or any of the other inspectors) would walk up to the specific computer and hand our code and container number and they put them into the system and do the prints, but all the clerks were doing other things, so I just did it myself. Later the group leader pulled me to the side and asked if I'd like to work in the office.

Since I was originally denied an office-type job (in the call center, I think) because I was leaving in August I was happy to get the clerk off even after I told her I would be leaving in August.

Bunny Orgy!!!!

Okay, now that I've got your attention. For those of you who are only peripherally, if at all, aware of what I'm currently doing for some extra dinero (sp?), I'm a dock/prep inspector at LTD Commodoties' warehouse at 1000 Bilter. My job description is essentially, inspect 30 product and make sure what they're supposed to be, then stuff them back in their boxes and send them on their way. Sometimes it gets more complicated, but I'll ignore that for now.

Today, I inspected Happy Bunny cuddle pillows. Now let's think about this for a minute. They stuffed 6 of these things in each box, so each one I opened to inspect was like discovering a giganormous (they were 26" tall) pink bunny orgy. And they were all very happy.

Sorry, just felt the need to share, it's not like there's anything else going on in my life right now.

#2

hoody frickin' hoo!

*happy dance*

I'm officially employed at LTD Commodities. The title's the dojo-kun for Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai this month. From now on the first time I post each month will be titled after the dojo-kun unless it's severely inappropriate. Two points for the first person to tell me what it means.

This is mostly a quick update. I put a couple new links in my sidebar and I wanted to:
a. point them out
b. tell you what they are

so here I go.
<nl>1. Dawn of Dragons is an online novel being written by.. I've forgotten her name... but anyway... it's quite enjoyable. She's up to 2 and a half-ish books, each written in chronological succession from a different character's perspective. They're not Tolkien or anything, but they're well-written and enjoyable stories.</nl>
<nl>2. The link for Sluggy Freelance has also snuck into my comics section. It's an odd little comic for geeks of all sorts. I haven't finished reading up all the way yet, so I can't comment on offensiveness or lack thereof, but it's funny.</nl>
<nl>3. Tchjdaedn's music. Yes, I do have this categorized under art. It's very obviously midi, but it's worth listening to, in my opinion. It's under art for two reasons: 1. some of the compositions definitely deserve that title and 2. he did all of them without any formal music training, which just blows me away.</nl>
<nl>4. Two new blogs have filtered into my list, Kassidy 101's Journal by ((omg!!!)) Kassidy 101 and Hard at work, doing whatever I do best by the previously mentioned Tchjdaedn. They're a couple people who I've met in Wyoming, peruse and be enlightened... if you dare! Oh, and they're both people you've seen/heard me refer to by their real names... see if you can figger out who...</nl>
<nl>5. And last, but certainly not least, is the link to the myriad, and I mean myriad, pictures of the club over the last 5 or 6 years, but most of them are of just this past semester... you can make a contest out of it: "Spot #2!" *snickers*</nl>

Anyways... just puttin' up a quick descrip of the links, I'll post other stuffs tomorrow between job-hunting and other stuffs... somehow...

#2

EDIT: addendum at 1 am 16/05/06

yeah, yeah... anyway...

classes next semester... I'll start with one simple word: ugh... I've got 3 writing-heavy classes, my speech class, and a lab science... someone kill me now...

8am MTWR = GERM 2040: 2nd Year German 2... I'd've taken it this past semester, but for a reason I can't fathom they only offer the second half of 2nd year German Fall semester.
9am MWF = POLS 1000: American and Wyoming Government... you just gotta love those constitution requirements...
11am TR = ENGL 1010: collegiate Composition and Rhetoric... which is their nice way of saying Freshie composition... why, oh, why didn't I take A.P. English????
12pm MWF = BIOL 1010: General Biology... bloody lab science... but I have to take it to take paleo courses later...
2:45pm TR = ANTH 2000: Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology... well, at least I have one class in my major... of course, it's also filling my 'O' credit, or oral... which means it's also acting as my freshie communication course... at least I've got buds in that class...
2:10pm M = BIOL 1010: General Biology Lab... ugh...

at least I did decently grade-wise this semester... two As and two Bs... I shouldn't've gotten one of those Bs, but it's my own fault, so *shrugs*

... knowing me I'll post more later, by my brain is dead and I keep correcting my own spelling, so... yeah... nighty...

#2 again

oh, right... I took my most recent karate test on Thursday and passed. I'm now officially Rukikyu (6th kyu) or second blue (time to find the electrical tape...).

Both the games I'm in are going along well. I managed to trick Karen into joining Dylan's game. We're finally going to have a ranger now, woo hoo! The nature-based divine has been horribly lacking since I chose to play a Cleric this time 'round. Still, though, it looks like it will continue to be quite fun.

In Devon's game we're getting excessively wierder and beginning to seem more and more like red-shirts. On the other hand, I got booku experience Friday night because Max ran off at the last minute. We needed his character so I ended up playing his and mine and got experience for both applied to my char. There's nothing like playing two very different Malks at the same time... and managing to annoy the group entirely... >.>... but that's a little hard to explain...

On a similar strain of thought, I've finally met the imfamous Raleigh Love. For those of you going, who the heck's Raleigh Love, he's kind of a legend out here... kind of? who'm I kidding? He is a legend around here. He graduated from here last spring, has achieved his Nidan (2nd Dan or 2nd degree black belt) from the Shorin Ryu group here on campus, and I swear to God he knows every gamer in town. I finally got to see the much-advertised ki-demonstration that Kate and Raleigh used to do all the time. It was quite entertaining more-so for the audience than for the performers. It's just a series of planned and practiced strikes to demonstrate Raleigh's grasp of Ki, his ability to resist pain in all its forms. The final strike is a blow to the groin with a steel-toed boot. There's nothing quite like watching every guy in the audience cringe in unison. What makes it so impressive is that she hits him and all he does is lift up a little from the force of the strike, he doesn't even feel the groin shot.

Truthfully, after all the things I've heard about him over the last semester and a half it was really cool to finally meet the man behind the legend... and stay up way to late watching the new Dr. Who, it's great, just by the way. Apparantly, he's not planning on running of to Easter Island again for a while (that's where he was before) so we may be seeing more of him. 'Course he doesn't actually live in Laramie, he lives in Rock Springs, but he's entrenched in the final plans of one of the games I'm not in, but I've been informed that I can watch anyway.

And now that I've rambled on for a bit I'll sum it up easily... he's a pretty kewl guy.

I think that that's pretty much it, ttfn

#2

Time to post again... I was in a 5-competitor ring, me and four guys. I won my first match, but lost the other two, though apparantly my second opponent thought I'd won and several people thought that I'd won the final bout... but points're pretty subjective, so *shrugs* I did my best. Kyle and Ben were both in 4-competitor rings. We all thought that Kyle'd won his second bout, but apparantly the judges didn't agree.

I'm told that it looked like I scared my first opponant and looked like I was beating him up for his lunch money or something. It's certainly an interesting picture. I also got several compliments on my ferocity and spirit... I had fun.

After it was all said and done, and medals awarded we all ended up at a restaraunt and ate far too much, then hit the road home. Somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of the way back to Laramie we got pulled over. We were in a carpool of two and we honestly have no clue where the cop came from, but let's just say that Cousin-Ben's going to see if Soke can get the club to pay the $120 in speeding fines ($60 for each vehicle... after taking $10 off for everyone having their seat-belts on).

We did eventually get back to Laramie alright... just with a slight delay...

#2

*drumroll*

It's officially really frickin' cold up here... really frickin' cold... and that says a lot comin' from me. Being Friday, it's ghost night, huzzah! every Friday night on Travel from 1 pm on it's just ghost/mystery shows one after another, and their usually pretty good. That being said, Karen and I watch them until I get the call the Bronwyn's picking me up for game.

But anyway, enough about my Friday habits.

Harkening back to my last post, I passed my Kyu-test, so I'm officially a blue belt, and I've been officially ordered to go to open dojo this weekend because there's one other person from our group who signed up to spar at CSG, and he's never done it before and we both need the practice. I'm participating at the yellow belt level because that's what I was when I reged, he'll be competing at the brown belt level because he just tested for 3rd Brown (ichikyu/first kyu), which means that he'll be testing for black next winter. It'll be fun to finally get to spar again, even if I lose, which I tend to do in point matches. Additionally several members of the dojo are participating in the kata and/or weapons kata competition, so wish us luck, just a week and a day to go and I'll be sure to post the results afterward.

Since it's been and gone I suppose I should wish everyone a happy V-day. I hid in my room from the cold that day... instead of going to karate... I've been a bad girl, but it's been consistantly 20 below with windchill.

Anyway, I think that that's about it. Good night and god bless... or at least go safely...

#2

Guess it's my turn to update...

Ahh, yes, I remember this place... but anyway...

So much is going on that I'm not quite sure where to start, so I guess I'll start with the first thing that comes to mind. After a long fight with the beauracracy I have a roommate I actually want (huzzah!) and without too much trouble, actually, and we're getting on fine.

The D&D game I was supposed to be in this semester isn't happening after all because the GM was asked to go elsewhere to get his grades up this semester, which sucks. On the other hand, the V:tM game is still going full-bore. It's been fun watching the new Assamite PC and the Tremere NPC at eachother's throats. Oh, did I mention that we're now running like hell from what appears to be a permanentally obfuscated skin walker? This whole thing just keeps getting better and better. Oh, and the V:tM group has a new euphamism for being dead/ashed: "lives in his shoes"... We found the city's sherrif and he ashed right after we found him, so to get him back to the Elysium Fara-Kur (the other Malk) carried his ashes back in his shoes. So, yes, a Malkavian stood up in front of the council, announced, "the sherrif lives in my shoes," and dumped the sherrif's ashes onto the council table... That had some fun results...

I am now officially bored in my Calc II class... apparantly they don't do integration until Calc II here, I'm told that it'll get more interesting later... I pray it does...

I have my kyu-test this afternoon to test for sitchikyu (7th kyu) which is 1st blue in this style. I swear to god, this is the only style where blue comes before green. This'll be the last test for which I won't need weapons kata. For the next one, which'll probably come at end of semester, I'll need two bo-kata (isn't that fun?).

Also a large group of us are car-pooling to Casper on the 25th of February to participate in Cowboy State Games. I think I'm either the only person sparring, or one of a small number (since the one other person who really spars broke his knee and won't be able to participate) and I'm really looking forward to it. The rules'll be a little different (like head shots and knee shots are legal within certain parameters) but I won't have to wear the bloody chest-protector, so I'm pleased as punch. I'm not sure how I'll do, but we'll see. I'm hoping to have pictures, since there are a few people going who are just spectating becuase they don't feel comfortable competing. I'm not even positive who all else is going... I know that Kate and Kyle are both going for kata and I think that Cousin-Ben'll be doing both, but we'll see. Either way, though, it'll be a blast, wish me luck.

Well, now I have to head off, but I think I got everything in, and if I didn't, well, I'll just edit the post later, so... yeah...

See y'all and have a nice day.

#2

since people have stopped guessing...

<nl>1. I don't remember who all guessed what anymore, except that I seem to have exhausted some people's S&G and Eagles lexicons... but anyway, thought I'd post the answers before going on with my postage...

Well, let's see... next week is finals week, so... yeah, I'm pretty brain-dead right now, I had my religion final yesterday, I've got my ANTH 1000 and archaeology finals today, and finally my geology and german finals on Monday, but don't get your hopes up, I'm still not getting home until Sunday. All I have to say about my activities this week is: there's nothing quite so annoying as doing a group research paper when only one other person in the group has done a research paper before and two of the group members are trying to insist that we shouldn't have to use citations... ugh... but it's done, huzzah!

In other news, the D&D campaign (Die, Vecna, Die) that I was in is officially over... and god did that go well:
The group did actually manage to kill Vecna. Not only that but we all lived to tell the tale! We cleaned up his cronies pretty quickly while the character known only as 'hey you' took on Vecna. Mara was killed by Vecna in the very first action of combat, leaving her mark on the world in the form of a grease smear on the wall. Dat Guy (no, I'm not kidding, that's the char's name) made quick work of most of the enemies including his own, Mara's, and my own, with his numerous powerful attacks. Caleb disappeared after a heavy bout of damage by one of his opponents. Maras enemy, now in the body of his snake familiar, attacked Lil and bound her tight. Lil's enemy attacked Dat Guy in an attempt to remove him from the picture, but failed miserably. Lil layed some serious healing down on those who needed it and were still alive. Ben took out the snake, freeing Lil, and one of Caleb's. I cast Bull's Strength, mass to try to help my comrades in their attempts to kill Vecna once and for all. Vecna tried to take out Dat Guy, but only landed about half of his attacks and didn't do nearly enough to kill him. Dat Guy turned Lil's opponent into a fine red mist, then finished off the last of Caleb's opponents and turned his attention to Vecna.

It only took a few short rounds of combat ((short being 20-30 min real time)) for Hey You to figure out that we weren't really getting anywhere and activate a contingency that none of the rest of us would have considered; he allowed Vecna to strike him and turned himself into a sphere of annihilation, ending Vecna's reign of terror once and for all. We were all quite bereved at the loss of our companions... at least for a moment. Lil had me crack the rod of seven parts ((blame the GM, not me)) to true res Mara while she prayed for Hey You's soul. After what seemed like an eternity Lil looked up and declared that Lothander would not retrieve Hey You's soul, so I did a little praying of my own, being the only other divine caster in the group. I put in some time with my totem ((for those of you who don't know Kalamar, I'm a Shaman, basically a Druid who worhsips her animal companion)) who, after a little consideration, did the deed and reunited his soul with the material plane. We managed to locate and retrieve Caleb and re-entered Sigil from Vecna's fortress as a complete party.

All I have to say is... that was a blast!

Also, the Vampire campaign I'm in progresses. For the people who know V:tM I'll share some of our current events:
<nl>1. after failing an attempt at surveillance we had a guy piss on our front right tire, yell, "'Ware the moors!" at the top of his lungs, then run like hell</nl>
<nl>2. Max shot him in the back with his shotgun</nl>
<nl>3. Max decided that we should probably get the heck out of there since he'd just committed felony assault, so we did, only to look back and see the old guy chasing us on all fours... and gaining...</nl>
<nl>4. the lupines are out to get us, I swear... stupid Scotland...</nl>
<nl>5. the lupines burned down the Elysium</nl>
<nl>6. while we were in it (we're still alive only through sheer luck)</nl>
<nl>7. and it was our fault (ain't that just the kicker)</nl>
<nl>8. and now we're about to attack a Skin Walker outpost (and prolly get our rear-ends handed to us)</nl>
...
I've come to the conclusion that our chars are the red-shirts of the city... I'm sure the fact that we have two Malks has nothing to do with it at all...

In real-life current events, I'll be getting off the train in Naperville a week from Saturday, but I honestly don't know what's going on around New Year's yet... i.e. I may be in Detroit, I may be at home, who knows... other than that and Christmas itself I'm available between the 18th and the 6th...

I think that's it for now... I think... if it's not I'll just edit this, so... *shrug*... meh!

#2

to rip off #1 and Robby...

Step 1: List 10 Bands
Step 2: Everybody else guesses what your favorite song for that artist is
Step 3: When someone gets one right, bold it and type in your favorite song

1. I'm getting in at something like 12:30 am on Wednesday, yes, am... and leaving somewhere around noon on saturday. Sometime Friday afternoon/evening I'm being allowed to have friends over and stuff, for peoples who know them #3 and Evan are gonna be there... I'm just not sure what time yet... gotta figure that out, don't I?

I'm gonna be running a short W:tA game out here between Thanksgiving and Christmas break.

We've finally hit Christianity in my religion class... though I'd happily inflict bodily harm on the girl who keeps arguing with the prof...it could be just me, but I think he's studied a lot more than she has on the subject...

I know I aced the archaeology quiz I took yesterday, which is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I think his quizes and tests are getting easier... especially considering that there were only 6 passing grades on the first one (luckily I was one of them...)

Shotguns in Space finally updated!!!!!!!!!! did you beat some sense into them, #1? or did they do it on their own?

I think that's it for now,

#2

linkages...

I thought I might put out a little disclaimer on my links and stuff...

anything under 'my links' is mine, feel free to peruse
anything that begins with someone's name/number is theirs, peruse, but don't blame me
most of the tons of comics I've linked are fine for all ages:
Jack is for mature audiences only! trust me
for the peoples who don't know:
<nl class="info list">

8-bit theater, Adventurers, Atland, l33t pixelz, Order of the Stick, Role of the Die, RPG World, and VG Cats are all gaming related, whether it be video or table-top.

Alien Dice, Pure, and Shivae! are all products of Shivae Studios and I highly recommend them for their amazing animal work and both fun and deep story-lines.

Jack is at the very least a furry comic, but it also is based in the confusing areas of heaven and hell and deals with some sensitive subjects.

User friendly, Ctrl-Alt-Del, GPF, and QC are all geekiy computer-y comics of various types... though Ctrl-Alt-Del also got a decent amount of video-gamey stuff in it.

Mows, Neko, and Two Lumps are all cat comics

Fox Tails, Shifters, and Werechild are all shifter comics (as the name of the middle one might imply) from various backgrounds.

Clan of the Cats is also a shifter comic but with a more mature base. If you have problems with Magik, Wicca, etc. don't read it, otherwise I highly recommend.

CRFH and Surreal U are both college comics. CRFH is short for College Roomies from Hell and to call it odd would be an understatement, but after I read it's 4th or 5th cross-over with another comic I read I had to start reading it, it's funny. Surreal U is no longer updating, but I still recommend checking it out, though I might be biased. It was written by a student here at Uwyo, he's no longer updating due to his graduation, but the archives are still worth a read.

Legostar Galactica, Schlock Mercenary, and Shotguns in Space are all sci-fi strips. Legostar Galactica is a spoof strip, there's no hiding it, Schlock's a fun and funny comic, and SiS is still in the works...

Anime Arcadia is a cute little comic about a boy who draws a cat-girl then accidentally wishes her to life and the interesting hijinks that follow.

Antihero For Hire is drawn by the same guy who does Adventurers, but is a modern 'super hero' story

Funny Farm's, well... exactly what it sounds like... and so much more...

Mansion of E is a fantasy setting of sorts. It can get a little confusing due to its absolutely huge cast, but it's definitely worth a read.

Pokémon X is a spoof of the 'newest' line of Pokémon video games, definitely worth checking out.

Rob and Elliot and Sam and Fuzzy are both hard to explain, you'll just have to read them and see for yourself.

</nl>

If you read German feel free to check out the German-language strips. Benutzer Freundlich is just User Friendly in German and 'OotS auf Deutsch' is the same for Order of the Stick.

The Please! movie short is a 15 min film which I highly recommend. It's a relatively serious film, but the acting's great.

*skips a whole bunch that don't really need explaining*

Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kabudo Kai is the official site for my new style of martial arts... envy me!</nl>

I think that's all the ones I need to explain... if there are any others you care to ask about, feel free...

#2

argh...

Y'know... it's not that I don't like my roommate... she's nice enough and all, but really can it be so hard to be just a little quiet when one gets up? Or to not put on a second set of music or turn on a second TV? Good grief!

I do enjoy her company, it's just blatantly obvious that she's never shared a room before. And if she were just getting up for her 8 am and being a little loud it wouldn't bother me because I do need to start getting up earlier and I know it, but she's getting up at frickin' 5 am to go run with a friend and not managing to open and close her closet/drawers even somewhat quietly. This morning was particularly bad, hence the rant. She gets back from running at 6:30 and turns on the frickin' TV while I'm trying to sleep... if I'm lucky she doesn't turn on the light. When it comes right down to it, I like her and all, but I really hope she's allowed to move into the tri-delt house next semester so that Karen can move in with me. I think I've run out of rant... for now... mwahahahahaha!!!

#2

School

You know... I thought that since it's Friday and I won't have to deal with actual classes for a couple days, I'd tell y'all about what I'm doing. I'm currently enrolled in 17 credit hours this semester and another 17 next semester (yes, I'm a freshie who's already registered for Spring classes, God bless the CLA program).

Right now I'm enrolled in:
ANTH 1000: Intellectual Communities in Anthropology (3)
ANTH 1300: Introduction to Archaeology (3)
GEOL 1100: Physical Geology (4)
GERM 2030: 2nd Year German II (4)
and
RELI 1000: Introduction to Religion (3)
for this semester and
ANTH 1100: Introduction to Physical Anthropology (4)
ANTH 1200: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (3)
ENGL 1010: Collegiate Composition/Rhetoric (aka Freshman Composition) (3)
GERM 2140: German Literature (3)
MATH 2205: Calculus II (4)
for next semester.

Right now I'm in classes from 12-3 MWF, 11-4 TR, and 8-9 F, as strange as that sounds, and next sememster I'll be in classes 9-1;3-4 M, 1:20-2:30;4-5:30 T, 11-1;3-4 W, 11-12;1:20-2:30;4-5:30 R, and 11-1;3-4 F.

In addition to that I eat dinner with the same people every day at 5, I've got a V:tM game from 10-midnight or so on Fridays, a D&D game from 6-10 pm or so on Sundays, and Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kabudo Kai (aka karate) 7-9 MTR.

I passed my first Kyu (belt) test with the Shorin-Ryu group so I'm officially Hachikyu (8th Kyu) or yellow belt. I'm hopefully going to be participating in the Cowboy State Games in February for forms and sparring. This'll be Shorin-Ryu's first year attending so my prior sparring experience is greatly appreciated.

I'm pleased to say that right now I'm passing all my classes as of mid-terms and I like my profs and my advisor. I'll post pics of peoples at some point, but I haven't taken them yet, but once I do, I promise you'll get to see what my new accomplices look like.

#2

I Be Here

Hey, I be here, as the title says. I don't know how often I'll be posting or anything, but I'll try to keep important stuff up-to-date. For those of you who don't know, I'll be heading home over Thanksgiving and I hope to see a lot of people, but we'll see what time allows.

So far life's been going well out here in Laramie. I've got a good roommate and an even better one lined up for next year. I'm bumming around in 2 different games, one's a D&D campaign called Die, Vecna, Die!, which so far has been interesting to say the least, seeing as we just hit 21st level gestalted, but since this campaign's designed to kill the characters the fact that we only have one PC death so far is amazing. I'm a Shaman/Basirian Dancer... and honestly I don't know how to deal with the higher-than-twenty-levels-thing because I was trained that no character should ever get that high. We're currently spread throughout Sigil right now and any advice that might be lent would be appreciated since it's one of the few worlds I don't have any experience with.

The other game's a fun Vampire: the Maquerade game, there's not quite as much to it but it's still a blast. I'm playing one of two Malkavians in the group (it's not my fault I swear)... and oddly enough it's the Tzimisce who keeps getting into trouble with the council.

I'll post more later, I'm on a laptop and the battery's about to conk out on me.
